WHAT IS LIONSVILLE?


Lionsville, Essendon is an Aged Care facility which offers accommodation and care for about 200 elderly people. This is provided in 115 Independent Living Units and a Hostel, which caters for 78 frail elderly people. it is situated on the corner of Pascoe Vale and Moreland Roads, Essendon where the buildings are located in attractive garden settings.

Lionsville is a Project of the Lions Club of Essendon. The first stage of this, now, world renowned Lions Club project was opened in October, 1966 when the first twelve bed-sitting room units were occupied. Such was the demand for this type of accommodation that within 14 years the number of units grew to 114 including 13 for married couples. A hostel followed in 1983 and extensions to it were added in 1989 and 1996.

Lionsville, therefore, has provided high standards of accommodation and care for retirees and the frail aged for over 35 years.



MANAGEMENT OF LIONSVILLE

Lionsville Inc. is under the control of a Board of Management of 11 who are responsible to the members of the Incorporated body. Members of the Incorporated body is made up of members of the Lions Club of Essendon, Life Governors of Lionsville and members of the public who are accepted into the membership by resolution of the Board.

Lionsville is administered through Managers who are directly responsible to the Board. They are:

  1. Chief Executive Officer / Director of Nursing who is responsible for the running of the Hostel. He is assisted by the Clinical Care Manager, supervisors, activities staff, personal care workers, cooks and domestic staff. Andrew is also responsible for future planning and development.
  2. Operations Manager (Garry Carswell) who has responsibility for the management of the Independent Living Units, the financial management of the oversight of the administration of the Board's affairs. He is supported by a Personal Assistant.

This is situated on the first floor of "Ruthville", the residents' community centre. The office hours are 9:00am to 3-3:30pm, Monday to Friday.
